HISTORICAL ORIGIN
The Florence dining table takes its design cues from a Catalan column shaft (ca. 1130–40) in The Cloisters, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s museum dedicated to the art and architecture of the Middle Ages. The marble and stone column shaft, made in present-day France, is in the Cloister of Cuxa, which was recreated using fragments from the 12th-century Benedictine monastery of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa. The Florence dining table takes the serene, simple form of the museum’s column shaft and carefully reimagines it as an elegant travertine table.
In collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, we present a beautifully crafted new collection, including nearly 100 unique pieces of furniture, lighting and accessories. The Met | Eichholtz Collection draws inspiration from over 5,000 years of history and art.
